WHAT IS CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD), is derived from a non-psychoactive Hemp compound with potential health, therapeutic and medical benefits.

FROM HEMP TO CBD

After hemp oil is removed from the plant, it is further refined to an isolate only CBD. To isolate the pure CBD crystals, hemp oil is extracted and it is put through a “winterisation” process- or slowly heated to remove fats and lipids. Then, a machine called a rotary evaporator is used to remove any remaining plant traces. The final product is decarboxylated through another meticulous heating process to activate the cannabinoids.

HOW DOES CBD WORK?

CBD, Hemp distinctly interacts with cannabinoid receptors in each individual.

"Cannabinoid Receptors, spread throughout the body, are part of the Endocannabinoid System which is involved in a group of physiological processes that include appetite, pain-sensation, mood, and memory.”

POTENTIAL BENEFITS

  • Anti-inflammatory

  • Antioxidant

  • Neuroprotectant

  • Anxiolytic

  • Antidepressant

  • Pain Relief

  • Anti-Psychotic

  • Reduces Anxiety

  • Relieves Nausea

THE ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM (ECS)

The ECS can be described as the greatest internal neurotransmitter system, containing a vast network of cell receptors with many functions such as:

  • Mood

  • Memory

  • Motor control

  • Immune function

  • Reproduction

  • Pain perception

  • Appetite

  • Sleep

IS CBD LEGAL IN CANADA?

CBD is a cannabis compound that has potential benefits and is non-psychoactive meaning it does not affect the mind or mental process. There are two main types of CBD that can be produced, one type of CBD is produced directly from cannabis, while the other type of CBD is produced from Hemp.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN CANNABIS CBD AND HEMP CBD

CBD produced by Cannabis will have some THC content where as CBD produced by hemp will have very little to no THC content. Those with an ACMPR (Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations) are allowed to purchase and consume CBD produced by Cannabis, where as those without an ACMPR are only allowed to purchase CBD products produced by hemp. When purchasing CBD, the product will come in a labelled container specifying whether yours has been produced by Cannabis, or, whether it was produced by Hemp.

RESTRICTIONS OF CBD IN CANADA

According to CBDOILWIKI, CBD is legal in Canada, but, HEALTH CANADA has put some restrictions in place. If you are a person with-out an ACMPR who is purchasing CBD produced by hemp the THC content MUST be lower than 0.3% dry weight (complete finished product) anything over and above this percentage will be considered illegal even if it is produced by hemp making it difficult to source legal CBD within the Canadian Law.

The 0.3 THC percentage came from a 1976 taxonomic report by canadian plant scientists Ernest Small and Arthur Cronquist, who never intended for the 0.3% THC to function as a legal demarcation between hemp and other forms of cannabis.

Under Canadian Law, CBD and other Cannabis based products produced by marijuana that have a higher THC content of 0.3% can only be obtained by people in possession of an ACMPR prescription. Under this law, these individuals are allowed to produce a minimum amount of Cannabis for their own personal use or they can find a provider to produce it for them.
